Can I connect to OpenVPN Connect and my local network at the same time?

I am using OpenVPN (self-hosted on a Synology NAS) in order to connect to a remote NAS.

I want am looking to set up an additional NAS that will be at my workplace (large institution), to mirror the remote NAS as an additional backup, and am hoping to get my institutional IT dept to agree to allow my desktop to find the NAS on the local network.

If I get this working, what I want is to be connected to my remote NAS via the OpenVPN, and to my local NAS via my ethernet connection.

But I'm not sure if this is feasible, as I am not sure, if I am connected to a remote network via the VPN, if I can still access my local network via an IP address. I really want to know this before I approach the IT, so as to know what I would need from them.

    Hi henrybrice.

Yes, you should be able to reach resources on your local network while your VPN connection is active.

The only exception to this would be if you were to have the block-local directive included in your .ovpn configuration file.

Other than that I don't see why the setup wouldn't work.

    Hope my response was helpful.

    With Regards,
