OpenVPN-2.6.12 no connection on Windows10 - but it's ok on the phone (Android 11)

I got a new job. The former admin left me his file - (hisname.ovpn)

I have to import it into OpenVPN-2.6.12 (he told me to do so) and then I can continue doing my job (maintain services within the company's VPN network)

My question will seem very simple to everyone, I think.

I installed OpenVPN-2.6, imported the .ovpn file
(then there were 2 days of searching for connection problems)
I tried on Windows 7, on Windows10 - there was always an error

DEPRECATED OPTION: --cipher set to 'AES-256-CBC' but missing in --data-ciphers (AES-256-GCM:AES-128-GCM). OpenVPN ignores --cipher for cipher negotiations.
AUTH_FAILED, Data channel cipher negotiation failed (no shared cipher)"

I tried everything, I found all the people on the Internet with this error))

Then - I realized that if all the company's employees work through OpenVPN 2.6 - no problems, then everything is fine, the server is ok, (I checked it - the cipher is AES-256-CBC on the server and in the .ovpn file)

I tried to do the same thing via the phone, connected in an instant!

Today I learned that OpenVPN needs to be launched only on behalf of administrator rights. I started doing this. But it did not help.

The firewall is disabled, Windows defender is disabled.

The same cipher is clearly indicated on the server and on the client.

All colleagues at work every day calmly use OpenVPN-2.6.12

I work from home, remotely, also on Windows 10...

I already called the Internet provider, no one blocks anything there (they said that they even use OpenVPN for their work)

And only for me - it does not want to connect.🙂

On the phone it connects fine, on Windows 10 or Windows 7 it cannot.

The log always shows the same thing:

--cipher set to 'AES-256-CBC' but missing in --data-ciphers (AES-256-GCM:AES-128-GCM) - but this is not true, I saw the server config with my own eyes, there is only 'AES-256-CBC' and that's it.

AUTH_FAILED, Data channel cipher negotiation failed (no shared cipher)" - and this is not true - there is a cipher. AES-256-CBC - and only this one, there are no others on the server. and in .ovpn file

But.... The cell phone understands this and does not spoil my nerves)
But Windows somewhere does not let something through...

But why then Windows perfectly lets through all the company's employees, except me...😔

My cell phone on Android 11 (Redmi10) is a proof - that the home router does not block anything and proves that the provider is telling the truth.

I am used to working on Windows 7 much longer and I work constantly on Ubuntu, maybe I do not understand something in the Windows 10 settings...

All my hope is on this forum, I like OpenVPN ❤ but it seems I I've already tried everything, I'll get fired.😰

Someone help....😨 Something's wrong with my Windows 10 (I've reinstalled it many times) as well as Windows 7

    Or something's wrong with OpenVPN

I'll probably get fired soon, I don't know what to do.😢

Please help who knows how to make OpenVPN-2.6.12 work on Windows 10

did you RTFM? --> openvpn ?
especially the paragraphs --cipher, --data-cipers and --data-ciphers-fallback ?

i donated my crystal ball to the thrift store, you have to provide anonymized config files and version numbers to get more specific answers.

of course i did. and i am running the openvpn software 2.6.12 as a client on windows 10 without problems.
it isn't windows 10 fault, but incompatible configurations as your OP shows:
DEPRECATED OPTION: --cipher set to 'AES-256-CBC' but missing in --data-ciphers (AES-256-GCM:AES-128-GCM). OpenVPN ignores --cipher for cipher negotiations.
AUTH_FAILED, Data channel cipher negotiation failed (no shared cipher)"
so provide config files, version numbers and relevant portions of logfiles of all equipment involved if you want anyone to help you.

          The problem is partially solved

          in file - hisname.ovpn
          I did it like this:

          #cipher AES-256-CBC

          data-ciphers AES-256-GCM:AES-128-GCM:AES-256-CBC:AES-128-CBC

The connection is enabled but - OpenVPN - 2.6.12 looks like a gray square window with logs

All my colleagues have it like this...
Please help me if you know how to fix it.

A grey square window is not normal, something is wrong with the client or with the connection most likely.
